Despre autoare/ About the author

Abigail Reynolds is a great believer in taking detours. Originally from upstate New York, she studied Russian and theater at Bryn Mawr College and marine biology at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole.  After a stint in performing arts administration, she decided to attend medical school, and took up writing as a hobby during her years as a physician in private practice.
A life-long lover of Jane Austen’s novels, Abigail began writing variations on Pride & Prejudice in 2001, then expanded her repertoire to include a series of novels set on her beloved Cape Cod.  Her most recent releases are MR. DARCY’S LETTER, A PEMBERLEY MEDLEY, and MORNING LIGHT, and she is currently working on a new Pemberley Variation and the next novel in her Cape Cod series. A lifetime member of JASNA and a founder of the popular AUSTEN AUTHORS group blog, she lives in Wisconsin with her husband, two teenaged children, and a menagerie of animals.  Her hobbies do not include sleeping or cleaning her house.

  Interviul/ Interview
1. Why do you love Jane Austen novels?

I love Jane Austen’s wit and warmth, and the incredible realistic characters she creates. I feel as if her characters are my friends.

2. What is your favorite Jane Austen novel?

Pride & Prejudice is my favorite, followed closely by Persuasion.

3. Who is your favorite Austen character?

I’d say it’s Mr. Darcy, not so much because he’s a romantic hero but because it’s so interesting to figure out what motivates him.

4. What inspired you to write ?

I wanted to spend more time with Jane Austen’s characters, and I wanted to try fixing some of their misunderstandings.

5. What can you say about your latest release ” Mr. Darcy’s Refuge ” ?

It’s a variation on Pride & Prejudice in which Darcy and Elizabeth are stranded together by a flood just after his first proposal. It leads to them resolving their disagreements sooner, but then their families present obstacles. I explore what might have made Mr. Bennet as withdrawn and sarcastic as he is.

6. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Introverted, creative, warm.

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I’m tempted to say ‘sleep’ since I never get enough of that! I enjoy spending time with my family and our pets. I love to travel, and, like Elizabeth, I strive to improve my mind by extensive reading.

8. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

There have been so many things! I see all the characters differently now because of learning about the time in which they lived and looking closely at what Jane Austen said about them. One big surprise was when I realized that Darcy kisses Elizabeth after the second proposal. I hadn’t realized that when Jane Austen wrote that “he expressed himself as sensibly and warmly as a man violently in love could be expected to do,” she meant that he kissed her, and Regency audiences would have understood that. Another surprise was realizing that Wickham had taken an interest in Elizabeth because he knew immediately that Darcy liked her.

9. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to Romanian readers ?

I’m delighted to discover I have readers in Romania. My father’s parents came from Eastern Europe (Poland and Ukraine), so I have a particular fondness for that part of the world. It’s great to know that people in Romania love Jane Austen as well!

I hope your Jane Austen Week is a great success!
